Big brother shouting back
The first time I saw this video, a sense of disgust entered my body. It was like a nightmare coming true, like a teacher telling you off for misbehaving ALL the time.
It's bad enough that we have to put up with the estimated 4.285 million (Jan 2004 according to the Independent) CCTV cameras in this "free" country. Of course the number of cameras have risen and I'd guess quite exponentially (well the growth in money terms is massive according to this economy report), although the government won't release any data ( I wonder why).
This is not freedom, in fact it is the opposite - control. For the moment these CCTV cameras are silent and almost invisible but not anymore...
They are testing a new system in Middlesborough where an operator shouts at pedestrians who commit minor petty offences (dropping rubbish, fag stubs etc).
This is totally humiliating for the person, this is control of the highest degree and induces fear in the person. Imagine these ghastly things all over the place, its an Orwellian nightmare.
This is how our public paid 'news' service reported this monstrosity - here
Not suprisingly it gives a biased and one sided view. The sound clip is an absolute joke, they treat it as something funny and non-intrusive. They just focus on the security issues, but who are they 'protecting' us from?? People riding bikes??
Here is a report from the Daily Mail, at least they cover the civil liberty front. Dated 16th September 2006. Here are some excerpts from the article:
Will it stop unacceptable behaviour? Will it heck! It is an urban myth that CCTV stops crime. They may catch the odd criminal in the act (hard to tell if they are wearing masks though!) but prevention, hell no. Crime has hardly dropped has it. Anti-social behaviour is on the increase as well...
It may change the attitude of the people that it directly affects, but it does this through humiliation, embarrassment and fear. Aren't you proud of your government?? I know Hitler and Stalin would be.
Yes she is right, it is like Big Brother and it is scary. That is the whole point of them - submission by fear. And when you are scared, you are easier to manipulate and control.
Oooh the irony, remember Robocop?. Remember the hidden 4th objective? How Robocop couldn't harm a member of the corrupt corporation (OCP) that made him. That's almost like it is today, on the front he seems like he is protecting the people, but really he is protecting the government.
WARNING - YOU ARE NOT TAKING YOUR STATE PRESCRIBED DRUGS/FOOD
Sorry went all 1984 there!
Remember the film Demolition Man, when the characters got a fine for anything that broke the states' laws e.g. swearing, dropping litter. Well we are very close to that.
Enjoy the last of your freedom whilst you can. Feel sorry for the future generations that haven't had a taste of freedom, they will have no idea. Since they've never tasted it, they will never fight for it. Unless we stop them and their power crazed ideas NOW!

This isn't about keeping tabs on people"The council claim this is not about keeping tabs on people, but that is exactly what it is about! How they heck can they claim that, when they are watching everybody who passes through that area.
"It challenges unacceptable behaviour and makes people think twice"A vague statement, what constitutes as unacceptable behaviour? Dropping litter? Dissenting?

The Mail on Sunday watched as a cyclist riding through a pedestrian area was ordered to stop. 'Would the young man on the bike please get off and walk as he is riding in a pedestrian area,' came the command. The surprised youth stopped, and looked about. A look of horror spread across his face as he realised the voice was referring to him. He dismounted and wheeled his bike through the crowded streets, as instructed.Oooh that does the trick, pick on a real criminal. That naughty cyclist, lets put him in the stocks next and chuck rotten tomatoes at him. Lets ignore the mass influx of drugs or the corruption of self-serving egotistical people that run big business.
Law-abiding shopper Karen Margery, 40, was shocked to hear the speakers spring into action as she walked past them. Afterwards she said: 'It's quite scary to realise that your every move could be monitored - it really is like Big Brother.
Yes she is right, it is like Big Brother and it is scary. That is the whole point of them - submission by fear. And when you are scared, you are easier to manipulate and control.
The scheme has been introduced by Middlesbrough mayor Ray Mallon, a former police superintendent who was dubbed Robocop for pioneering the zero-tolerance approach to crime.
Oooh the irony, remember Robocop?. Remember the hidden 4th objective? How Robocop couldn't harm a member of the corrupt corporation (OCP) that made him. That's almost like it is today, on the front he seems like he is protecting the people, but really he is protecting the government.
He believes the talking cameras will dramatically cut not just anti-social behaviour, but violent crime, too.But the majority of violent crime happens at home, so will he suggest to having them at our homes too? Will he accept having one at his home too? Guess the news article forgot that Mr Robocop was suspended from his post as Detective Superintendent in 1997 due to allegations of corruption (read here also). Unsuprisingly he escaped charges and ended up in a position of power.
their instructions make the following suggestions: 'Warning - you are being monitored by CCTV - Warning - you are in an alcohol-free zone, please refrain from drinking'; and Warning - your behaviour is being monitored by CCTV. It is being recorded and the police are attending.WARNING - YOU ARE DISSENTING AGAINST THE ESTABLISHMENT

Mr Bonner said: 'We always make the requests polite, and if the offender obeys, the operator adds 'thank you'. We think that's a nice finishing touch. So that makes it ok then?? I think Mr Robocop should of at least 4 of them on his street as well, since he believes so strongly in them.
It would appear that the offenders are the only ones who find the audio cameras intrusive. The vast majority of people welcome these cameras. 'Total BS. Has he asked all his constituents?? I find them intrusive and I'm not a criminal. This is the usual get out clause that these kind of security freaks use. "Well if you don't commit a crime BLAH BLAH BLAH" That is not the frickin point! Would you like me to come to your house and watch you, so to make sure you are not breaking the law. And anyway its bleeding impossible not to break a law since Blair and chums are making on average a new law every day!
'Put it this way, we never have requests to remove them.'So people write to him and COMPLAIN! (Email him, ring him. Get his details here) Especially if you are from that area (Middlesborough),kick up a fuss. It is your right. And remember you PAID FOR THEM! Wouldn't want your hard earned money going to waste on such petty things as hospitals or education would we?

Excellent blog. Very informative and thought provoking. I've written a book about the conspiracy of the powerful. It was meant to be fiction - but reality is even more frightening...
